IDS Toronto will welcome international product and interior designer, Nika Zupanc, to IDS17 for Miele Professional Trade Day.
Zupanc is an independent designer who works on projects that grow out of distinctive interpretations of modern culture, contemporary design and technology. Her pieces carry an emotional charge, with inspiration drawn from theatre and film noir. Nika characterizes her work as “communicating the things that cannot be told.”
She has designed products for clients including Moooi, Sé, Moroso and Nodus. She has also done work on notable installations, including I Will Buy Flowers Myself (2009) and Gone with the Wind (2010), where she presented a collection of objects inside life-size doll houses, which became the hallmark of Milan Design Week, and Room Of One’s Own (2013) as part of the exhibition Esprit Dior: Miss Dior in Galerie Courbe at theGrand Palais in Paris. Along the way, Zupanc continuously produces objects under her own brand, Nika Zupanc, and is involved in numerous interior projects.
Most recently, Zupanc has been working with internet-based plastic furniture brand Qeeboo, established by renowned Italian designer Stefano Giovanonni. Zupanc has also designed a collection called Take me to Miami, consisting of 6 brass objects, for new Italian brand Ghidini1961.
